Collection: The Wunderwall Enlarged - Francesco Battistello

Francesco has been fascinated by painting and drawing since childhood, initially creating images to accompany his own stories. As a teenager, he developed an interest in street art, drawn to the interaction between a deliberate gesture and a surface that is already “alive.”

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he focused on painting, its techniques, history, and anatomy, before completing a master’s degree at La Cambre in 2022. He currently lives and works in Brussels.

Francesco’s practice is deeply tied to material. Whether working on raw canvas or marble dust, he adapts his approach to the surface, allowing image and support to influence one another. This results in works that range from light and precise to layered and process-driven, where traces of earlier compositions can re-emerge like archaeological fragments.

Drawing on mythologies, folk tales, and song lyrics, his paintings seek to evoke elements of a shared imaginary, shaped through atmosphere and material presence.
